Ponta Malongane is one of the premium dive centers and adventure holiday resorts in Mozambique
Situated in southern Mozambique, just 11 km north of the South African border, Ponta Malongane is best known for its supreme diving sites and excellent fishing. It is however a place that everybody will enjoy. It’s tranquil and pristine beaches with its relaxed atmosphere will ensure that you will return, year after year.
Ponta Molangane boasts an amazing beach, enchanting beauty, and wondrous reefs which renders it the place where your thirst for freedom and excitement will be quenched.
Accommodation at Ponta Molangane
There are a variety of accommodation options available. Please visit the Booking Info & Prices section for more information regarding accommodation, camping equipment, meals, border transfers and diving packages available for the duration of the festival.
Rondavels:4 beds. These all have en suite bathroom and kitchenette with a fridge. Please provide your own towels.
Chalets:
4 beds, 5 beds, 6 beds. These all have en suite bathroom and kitchenette with a fridge. Please provide your own towels.
Camping:
All campsites have lots of shade and a plug point. Please note no appliances with elements to be plugged in, as this will trip your power supply. It is recommended to use gas. There are General campsites 9from the entrance gate (reception) up to the restaurant, and Exclusive Camping (from the restaurant up to the dive camp or stage area. The difference is, everybody share campsites on General Camping - first come, first serve. You can book per person. On Exclusive camp sites, you book per campsite and are charge per person, but for the full amount of people that can go on the campsite. Tents on ground and tents on decking:
2-man dome tents with twin bedded mattresses, which are situated in the dive camp. There is no on suite bathroom - shared ablution facilities. Please provide your own linen and towels an light source (no candles!!!). There is a self-catering kitchen in the dive camp with a braai area. Please bring your own cutlery and crockery. Pots and pans provided. Fridge space is allocated to all guests staying in the dive camp. There is no electricity in the tents.
Log huts:
Wooden huts with twin beds and linen, which is situated in the dive camp. There is no on suite bathroom (shared ablution facilities). There is a self-catering kitchen in the dive camp. Please bring your own cutlery and crockery. Pots and pans provided. Fridge space is allocated to all guests staying in the dive camp. Please provide your own towels.
Diving at Ponta Malongane
Remember that you are entering an underwater game reserve and as such we cannot guarantee that you will see the marine life as stipulated in the following description of the dive locations.
All water sport activities at Parque de Malongane are run from the dive centre in the Dive Camp, situated in the southern part of the resort just 30 meters from the beach. It is a stylized 2 floor wooden complex, with self-catering kitchen, dining area, bar, small pool, a medical room, kitting up decks and compressor station, which offers you 232 Bar air-fills.
Open Water Sites
Bread Loaf (10 - 12m): If you want to explore and see pinnacle rocks, sand gullies, plate coral and a variety of fish life especially rays and scorpion fish then this is the reef to experience
Creche (10 - 12m): This dive is ideal for student & novice divers or those people who would like to dive a shallow reef. It has been named creche due to the abundance and wide variety of juvenile fish that can be seen.
Doodles (15 -17m): A fantastic dive with a massive variety of marine life. Octopus, mantis shrimp, potato bass, rays, honeycomb moray eels and game fish.
Paradise (12 -18m): For the chance to experience paradise under the sea - superlative corals, moray eels, tremendous gullies and overhangs await you, not to mention the wide variety of reef fish.
Ridge (12 - 16m): Here is the chance to discover a ledge, which is approximately 4m high with plenty of magnificent corals (soft and hard). Also discover the cave on this reef. The marine life is plentiful and you have a chance to spot the turtles and kingfish.
Shallow Malongane (12 - 14m): The opportunity to see all types of corals, grand turtles and large crayfish. On the southern part of this reef there are many gullies and caves that await your investigation.
Texas (12 - 16m): As the name indicates this is one of our larger reefs. For the adventurous diver, central to this reef is a large gully with swim through, overhangs and arches. Turtles, scorpion fish, rays, eels and soft corals can also be found.
Advanced Sites
Maverick’s (25 - 28m): One of Malongane's deeper dives. In the middle of the sand is a awesome pinnacle rock that is 20m across & 30m long with its residents. Find honeycomb morays, smaller morays, leaf fish and other sea wonders.
Three Sisters (21 - 25m): The 3 sisters of the sea are 3 pinnacle rocks about 50m apart. A prospect not to be missed where there are huge amounts of fish life - black cheek moray eels, honeycomb morays, lionfish and large rays are just some of the examples.
Anchor (18 -21m): Not only do you get the joy of exploring the anchor on the southern end of Kev's Ledge that gave this reef its name but also 2 parallel ledges with an abundance and variety of reef fish.
Pinnacles (28 - 42m): Imagine being able to dive on the edge of a continental shelf with sharks Hammerheads, Zambezi and Dusky not to mention large game fish and manta rays. Summer is the ideal time to dive this reef.
Bass City (20 -25m): Bert is famous throughout the waters of southern Mozambique and is in residence at Bass City. There are 4 other large potato bass on the 5 outcroppings of rock that make up this reef but Bert is the only one who will come and swim with you. Come and discover other sights.
Rianna’s Arch (18 - 24m): Your dream of swimming through an awesome arch with a rich and spectacular variety of fish is possible on the northern side of Kev’s Ledge.
Kev’s Ledge (21 - 24m): For the inquisitive person the many and varied crevices of a 6m rocky ledge is heaven and is yours to explore with its wide and varied marine life. It is similar to a wall dive.
General Terms and Conditions
Key Deposit
A key deposit of R100.00 is required on arrival at the resort. This is refunded on departure once the resort’s house keeping department has checked your accommodation, signed the back of your slip and you return this slip to the reception.
Diving
No diving is allowed to be done from private boats. No private compressor for cylinder filling is allowed in and near the resort. All divers will be required to show their valid C-card and log book to the dive camp staff before diving. Management reserves the right to prevent a diver from diving if this information is not valid.
Dive planning is done every evening in the dive camp. Please note that only the dive camp staff can do dive planning or make changes. All dives confirmed will be charged for.
Reef Tax
Reef tax is STRICTLY payable at the resort. Reef tax is R20.00 per diver for a 7-day stay and is subject to change by the Mozambican Government.
Parking
Guests must park in the designated areas only; we request that you do not park on the grass. If there are any problems please contact the reception or the resort’s management.
Braai
It is strictly forbidden to braai on the grass. No fires are allowed on the beach without the permission of the resort manager.
Flora and Fauna
Guests should not damage or remove fauna and flora in and around the resort. Wood or charcoal can be obtained in the shop during working hours. No pets are allowed in the resort.
Reefs
If anyone is reported to management or found to be abusing the reefs, fish, plant life, removing things from the reefs etc., she/he will not be allowed to dive.
Driving on the Beach
Driving on the beach is strictly NOT allowed. The resort reserves no right to grant any permission whatsoever to drive on the beach.
Losses
The resort cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage of equipment.
Casual Staff
Can be employed to assist you. Check at reception for available help. Please ensure that you discuss and agree on a wage that you will pay as the casuals are not part of the Malongane team and therefore are not responsible for them. NO casual workers may work between 18H00 and 06H00. Wages vary between R20-00 to R25-00 per day per casual.
Security
Although Ponta Malongane has security on duty 24 hours a day, management does not take any responsibilities for any goods stolen or damaged during your stay there. Ponta Malongane reserves the right of admission at all times.
